Human beings are born with a sense of exploration that manifests itself in various forms, by showing interest in different things. Some may be interested in the different cultures of the world, others in sporting activities, motor industry, nature in different parts, fashion and design, the list is endless. Others may have picked an interest in getting to know how certain foods in particular ethnicities are done, and what makes them special. This could be closely related to knowing their culture since you cannot learn about their culture without knowing about their food, how they prepare it, or even how they plant it if they are vegetables. India is one place that has managed to strike the interest of others concerning peculiarly living their lives, that other people would be interested to learn about.

Their food is an area that has particularly influenced plenty of dishes internationally and can be seen from how communities borrow a thing or two from them. They are famous for adding pepper to almost all their meals, which in essence gives them a different taste that is unarguably satisfying. Chili has been proven to have several health benefits, aside from being a delicious spice. Though not significantly if used alone, but in conjunction with things like exercise and good eating, it could go a long way. Several Indian dishes are popular all over, many of which may be borrowed by a couple of external communities due to the trades that occurred years ago, that resulted in cultural exchange and intermarriage. Examples of the dishes include Biryani, which is famous among the Swahili community, chicken tikka masala, naan, and samosa.

Like any other culture, over time, certain things are overtaken due to technological advancements and evolution in the way man thinks. Individuals 100 years ago do not think as we do today, and such have greatly affected how we perceive our cultures. Some practices are still in place to date, but the majority is being dropped along the way, making today a more liberal community. These practices that are being carried out or dropped, include the food that we eat today. Some meals have been present for centuries, while others are flat out forgotten, only to be remembered by a few individuals whose parents taught them how to make them.

From the Indian community, such meals include Parinde’s main Parinda, which looks like an extravagant dish that is pleasing to the eye. This dish consists of a whole camel that is roasted alongside other small animals, and the spaces in between are filled with boiled eggs. The animals could include ducks, chicken and quails, all marinated separately due to their difference in size and tenderness. Doing this helps in keeping each of their flavors, creating a mixture of flavors in your mouth that leaves you amazed. This dish is best eaten from India to get the full experience of the spices it offers.

Shufta Kanaguchhi is another example that uses precious more mushrooms as the main ingredient. This dish is mainly filled with dried sweetened fruits, one of the few from Srinagar. It is a thick concoction of cottage cheese, dry fruits, saffron, milk, desi ghee, and morel mushrooms. This dish is closely related to what we currently refer to as dates, which are also dried sweetened fruits. Phulkari Pulao is a meal that is cooked from four different varieties of rice. Plenty of meals in India involve rice since it is the staple food there, having plantations almost all over. Their climate allows for the large-scale growth of rice, making it the main ingredient of many meals there.

Cultural heritage and activities are slowly dying due to the modernization direction the world is taking, making it difficult to sustain certain practices. It is, however, important to keep them going because they remind us of where we are coming from, giving us a clear picture of the vision that lies ahead of us. Some of these practices could even keep us healthy for longer, since they are mainly centered around natural materials, unlike today where everything we consume is processed. India is a place rich in culture despite the direction the world is taken, and a visit there to experience the diversity will be worth every penny.
